Rawson Crater Lake Walkway
As part of our customer’s commitment to Community and Environment we were engaged to design and construct a walkway that allowed the local residents to immerse themselves in the beauty of their natural surroundings. The walkway not only had to enhance the surroundings of the lake but also be practicable so that it could be enjoyed by all members of the community of all ages and capabilities. Integral to the brief was there was minimal disturbance to the existing flora and fauna as the scope of project was to also increase the natural habitat of the existing wildlife.

Assessment of the condition of the deteriorated carpark and surrounding areas.

Collaboration with our client to develop a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the rectification works, providing expert advice and recommendations on the best approach to address the issues within budget and time constraints.

Implementation of safety measures by cordoning off the affected areas to prevent public access during the works.

Carrying out the necessary resurfacing and repairs to the carpark and other high-traffic areas, ensuring a safe and functional environment for the public until the larger capital project is completed.
Challenges

Water levels management had to be constantly maintained to ensure accessibility to work area and capacity for concrete around the footings to cure.

Managing the hazard of working in and around water.

Ensuring that our environmental impact footprint was minimised to protect the existing flora and fauna.

Due to the remote location, materials such as concrete deliveries called for transport from Gippsland (Moe). requiring precise Project Management.

Juggling safety compliance with public relations as community members were constantly engaging crew to follow the progress of the project.
Outcome
The boardwalk was successfully integrated into the surrounding landscape, complementing the natural environment while providing a functional and aesthetically pleasing structure. The client expressed great satisfaction with the quality of work, highlighting the attention to detail in both the design and construction, which met all expectations for durability and visual appeal. The project also enhanced the natural environment providing attracting additional wildlife to the area.
